Kalimba is musical instrument on which to play simple melodies and familiar European works. Kalimba name is well known and often used to denote all lamellophone. Lamellophone sometimes are referred to simply as lamellar instruments. Often the instruments different look, lamellar and their way of tuning. This diversity makes it possible to choose the one that we like the look and sound.
1. Kalimba of the one row the keys.
Kalimba similarly mbira and
karimba has a plaque in
its construction, but with the difference that in most
kalimba has a key on the on the resonance cavity, made
of thin planks glued or taped to boards or coconut
shell gourds. It is
worth remembering that the kalimba can also have a key
attached to the boards. This solution is especially
useful when recording music. It is then clear sound
with electronics that can be modified. Often plaques
kalimba has the same width and thickness throughout its
length. They are 'ready-element', flat bar, which you
can buy the spool and then cut into proper lengths, but
this write in another topic.
Key of this appearance / design, you can pretty much
retune and this is an advantage, a disadvantage is that
it easily lose their sound purity. because in the
mounting are loosely and the stronger compression
causes deformation. Key may be forged that the wire
attachment are rigid and at the ends of a moving
flexible and broad. Kalimba usually tuned so that you
can play the European music, it is noted here that
there are no hard rules as to how it should be tuned
(as is the case in mbira and karimba). So can freely,
select the type of sounds and their placement.
1. Wersion 11 keys:
g '', e'', c'', a' , f' , e' , g' , h' , d'' , f'', a''
Classic tuning in a clear and easy-to-use system keys. Kalimba is good for the novice player and facilitate the child and play simple melodies. Well-known melodies it is easy to play by ear and try their games can be a great challenge and fun, even for adults.
2. Wersion 15 keys:
g '', e'', c'', a' , f' d', h , a , c', e' , g' , h' , d'' , f'', a''
Classic tuning in a clear and easy-to-use system plaques. Kalimba is good for the novice player and facilitate the child and play simple melodies. Well-known melodies it is easy to play by ear and try their games can be a great challenge and fun, even for adults.
[back]2. Two rows of plaques.
Lamellae kalimba can be placed on one, two or even
three rows. Often musicians have kalimba in which keys
are almost made to measure, ideally suited for hand or
even matched to the played songs. There are a lot of options and one of them
is to placement the key in two rows in such a way that
the sounds were placed alternately. The first high on
the right of the page board, next to the lower left
page, then to the right again and so on until we reach
the center of the board. Subsequent key placed in the
bottom row, alternately.
In such construction are ideally suited forged key, because they are rigid in the holder so there is not movable. Narrow width of the mount also creates opportunities to optimize the use of space on the board. However, at the end of in which the game is played keys is soft and wide for easy of excitation. Kalimba may have 23 plaques tuned from c'' 'to H, and have dimensions of 22 cm long and 17 cm wide. Include three octaves and allow to create very complex melodies.
There is a fairly large flexibility in tuning Kalimba. Below I present several options which can be tuned kalimbas (top view as holding up an instrument to play):
[back]1. Wersion 9 keys:
a'', e '', g'', h'' - laminas in the top row
h', g', e', a', d'' - laminas in the bottom row
2. Wersion 11 keys:
h'', g '', f'', a'', c''' - laminas in the top row
e'', c'', a ', g', h', d'' - laminas in the bottom row
3. Wersion 11 keys:
d''', a '', e'', g'', h'' - laminas in the top row
h', g', d ', e', a', d'' - laminas in the bottom row
The picture kalimba having 11 keys of relatively small very handy size: 15 cm long and 8 inches wide. Despite the small size of the keys have as much as 1 cm in width, so they are loud. Has a scale low outfit modeled on the ngoni, which makes for such a tuned kalimba offers the opportunity to play interesting ethnic melodies.

4. Wersion 15 keys:
g '', e '', c '', h ', d'', f'', a '' - laminas in the top row
a ', f ', d ', h , a , c' , e ', g ' - laminas in the bottom row
Kalimba in classical tuned gives you the ability to play simple and quite sophisticated melodies.
5. Wersion 15 keys:
f# '', d '', h ', a ', c'', e'', g '' - laminas in the top row
g ', e ', c ', a , g , h , d ' f# ' - laminas in the bottom row
5. Wersion 23 keys:
Instrument very large, having about 22 cm in length and from 17 to 18 cm wide. Gives you the ability to play rich and complex composition. The instrument in the picture has the following sounds:
h '', g '',e '', c '', a', g ', h ', d '', f ', a '', c ''' - laminas in the top row
f', d ', h , g , e , c , H , d , f , a , c ', e' - laminas in the bottom row
[back]3. Kalimba chromatic.
An interesting solution is the chromatic scale. So
tuned Kalimba looks like that mbira, but the repertoire
that can be created on it is quite different from what
it offers mbira. The photo shows a key kalimby tuned
chromatic, darker key it half a ton. The
highest sound is h'', but it can also be c'' '. Kalimby
chromatic structure although it is similar to the mbira
but differs from it. To the chromatic scale was,
properly and fairly clean sounds must be done very
precisely. Forging the keys at the same time the tuning
it takes a lot a deal of hours. That largely affected
by the large value of these instruments. Correctly
completed chromatic kalimba is a musical instrument
with enormous possibilities, it's a piece of thumb
piano, which can easily take with you anywhere.
Chromatic Kalimba usually do on your order and it is
possible to fit boards and plaques to hand playing
which significantly facilitates game.

Below I present some possible scenarios in which it can be tuned chromatic kalimba (top view as holding up an instrument to play):

1. Kalimba chromatic 22 keys.
Refers to the piano sounds, which gives a fairly clear sound system. Its dimensions are 20 cm long and 15 to 16 cm in width.c#', d#', f#', g#', a#', c#'', d#'', f#'', g#'' - laminas in the top row
c', d', e', f', g', a', h', c'', d'', e'', f'', g'', a'' - laminas in the bottom row
2. Kalimba chromatic 25 keys.
Darker plaque it is half a ton. Facilitate orientation / game. Dimensions are approximately 20 cm length and 15 to 16 cm in width.g'', g#'', a'', a# '', h'', c''' - prawy górny rząd
c#'', d'', d#'', e'', f'', f#'' - prawy dolny rząd
c'', h', a#', a', g#', g' - lewy górny rząd
f#', f', e', d#', d', c#', c - lewy dolny rząd

3. Wersion chromatic 25 keys.
Darker keys it is half a ton. Facilitate orientation / game. Dimensions are approximately 24 cm in length and 19 to 20 cm wide. Kalimba is a large low / bass outfit.d', d#', e', f', f#',g' - right laminas in the top row
g#, a, a#, h, c', c#' - right laminas in the bottom row
g, f#, f, e, d#, d - left laminas in the top row
c#, c, H, A#, A, G#, G - left laminas in the bottom row
Kalimba which produces most are steel forged steel wire mounted on a wooden board. In this solution, you can use one (sometimes large) resonator for several instruments.
